Why do we need to go deeper into anatomy anyway?

How would it feel to improve your yoga practice (or teaching) by deepening your understanding of the anatomy and biomechanics involved? A whole different level of experience for your clients (or even just for yourself!)

What would it change for you if you could learn how to integrate the physical, energetic and spiritual body through a deeper understanding of interoception, proprioception and cuing? You could keep yourself or others safe and healthy and receive the most benefit from a yoga practice.

What if you could identify postural presentations affecting comfort and learn common techniques to promote improved function and prevent injury? You could experience (or help others experience) the sensations of your body in a new way. Or address a nagging or recurring injury, and ACTUALLY find the root cause of the problem, right?

Game changer.

Do your clients need this? Or you….do YOU need it?

Let’s lay it out really clearly.

The Yogi Bundle - Posture and Core Video Series is for you if you:

  • Are a yoga teacher or wellness practitioner who desires understanding anatomy so intrinsically that you can help your clients prevent injury or truly heal from persisting injuries.

  • Are an active individual seeking to find the root cause of an injury (or injuries) and truly heal.

  • Are just health-conscious, interested in your own health and wellness, and want to keep your body moving well and without injury.

  • Are a teacher who wants to keep their students safe and healthy, and help them get the most out of their practice.

  • Are an active person of any age interested in maintaining wellness while also learning how to experience the sensations of your body in a new way.

  • Want to understand the mechanics of movement so you can ensure safety in teaching an Asana practice.

  • Have clients who want advice on how to correct problems on their own, or how to integrate postural strategies into their everyday activities. They wish to avoid the medical system’s rigid structure.

  • Are seeking insight into injury prevention, common presentations and variations of human anatomy and mechanics, and basic advice as to how to correct and prevent the above.

  • Wish to improve your own posture from intuitive, somatic, and intellectual perspectives, to integrate ideal postural alignment into your daily activities, and move and use your body more mindfully.

  • Feel stuck in a rut of your day-to-day schedule, in the habit of using certain exercises or certain movements and forget about others.

MODULE 3

YOGA BIOMECHANICS

Why would you even need to learn more anatomy?

  • As an active individual you wish to maintain great physical health at any age. Perfect. You’re in the right place here.

  • You haven’t found the solution to address the root cause of a nagging or recurring injury. Great, this will help.

  • In explaining to and teaching clients, you often simplify your descriptions and the anatomical details fade into the background of your memory. Well good, an anatomy refresher would be beneficial to your practice and your teaching!

  • You need a refresher or expander of anatomy and biomechanics knowledge as a fitness instructor, personal trainer, massage therapist, bodyworker, or coach. This can help!

  • You feel the quality and quantity of anatomy training in yoga teacher training programs is lacking in depth and expertise, and you’ve been looking for a way to expand your knowledge. Keep reading, yoga lover!

  • Your students look to you for advice on pain and discomfort but without additional training or certifications you feel liable (or at least uncomfortable) when approached by students in this way. I’ve been there, for sure.

  • Formal physical therapy (or other healing modalities) haven’t helped your clients and you want to know how YOU can help them. Aha - bingo!

  • A foundation from which you can teach students posture and muscle activation to prevent injury and keep your student’s practice pain-free.

  • A deeper knowledge and understanding of your body.

  • Know how to heal recurring injuries, and prevent injuries.

  • Get an expansion of anatomy and biomechanics knowledge.

  • A deep understanding of the physical forces the core and postural muscles provide and place upon the body to provide insight into the yoga practice.

  • Improve flow and ease of movement, protect your body (or those of your clients) and maintain the goal of “WELLness.”

  • Integrate and process a new understanding of the core and postural muscles through somatic experience.

  • Deepen your understanding of stability and alignment by deeply tuning into the sensations in your body through interception, connecting the mind and body, rather than learning simply at an intellectual and factual level.

  • Improve your posture and integrate ideal postural alignment into your daily activities to move and use your body more mindfully.

Sarah C.

I started taking Sara’s yoga class last summer. I was hooked right away since it’s way more fun and effective than my previous gym routine/ jogging. However a couple weeks into practicing, my knee flared up and it became painful going up and down stairs (not the first time I had dealt with this). I mentioned it to Sara who took a quick look, and explained it was actually my IT band. She went on the explain how the IT band is related to posture, core strength, and how my pelvis was tilted in my every day stance. Naturally she gave me some tips for short-term relief but empowered me to work on my posture for long term correction. And it worked! Honestly Sara’s advice made such a positive impact, I’m able to workout without pain and have a deeper understanding of how to keep my body balanced.

Highly recommend Sara for both PT advice as well as a Yoga instructor.

I feel very fortunate to have found Sara and her distinct, effective approach to core work. After having three babies, I often felt confused about how to safely and effectively rehabilitate my abdominals: there is a lack of guidance and resources for women postpartum, and I knew that certain movements were contra-indicated. For years, I did what I could based on my own research, and though I regained some strength, I felt like my progress hit a wall. Then I began taking classes with Sara and I immediately felt like she was offering movements and techniques that worked naturally with my body and targeted just the right places. Her background as a PT and her in depth knowledge of anatomy inform and enhance her classes in such critical ways, and her creative, upbeat spirit make the experience all the more fun and enjoyable. In just a couple months, I feel a significant structural difference. I feel a new found sense of strength and connection to my core, and can see definition that has not been there in a long time! As a strong core is such an essential piece of physical health and functioning, I know the benefits are numerous, and I am just so grateful that Sara has developed this powerful approach.

After working with Sara, I have a much better understanding of the muscles I’m using, and how to connect with each part of my body so that I can do yoga even more mindfully than I was able to before my back injury! The exercises we did and focus on breath, posture and yoga helped me get back to my routine in a way that regular physical therapy just wasn’t doing for me.

Sara Lamie

PT, DPT

Physical therapist, fitness instructor and yoga teacher – Sara began her interest in physical movement as a student-athlete. She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Juniata College in 2006 and her Doctorate of Physical Therapy at Franklin Pierce University in 2009.

Within her 13 years of experience, she has focused primarily on orthopedic outpatient physical therapy practice in hospital-based settings, with a focus on sports medicine and geriatrics. She has specific interests in joint mobilization and manipulation, including thrust and Mulligan techniques, individualized exercise prescription, therapeutic applications of yoga, and functional biomechanics.

When practicing in traditional settings, she was frustrated with the lack of preventative care and education within our medical system.

With her workshops and courses, she seeks to provide individuals, teachers, students, and other practitioners with information about how our bodies work. The most important component incorporated into her teachings is a somatic experience of interception, or connecting with your own bodily sensations.

By integrating the mind and body, she seeks to help individuals prevent injury, enjoy activities, and live their daily lives in a mindful, connected way. She wishes to promote wellness, comfort, and joy in the lives of those she teaches.
